Nicky Morgan was a local boy, born in East Ham, he joined West Ham his boyhood club as an apprentice, earning his first professional contract in 1978, he managed 21 appearances, scoring twice before leaving for Portsmouth in 1972.
The 1981 League Cup Final between Liverpool and West Ham United was played at Wembley on Saturday 14th March 1981, in front of 100.000 supporters.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time, Alan Kennedys controversial opener in the 118th minute, was wildly protested by the West Ham players as Sammy Lee lay in an offside position in front of goalkeeper Phil Parkes, but experienced referee Clive Thomas was having none of it. in the last minute West Ham were awarded a penalty after Terry McDermott purposefully saved Alvin Martin goal bound header using his hands. Ray Stewart calmly slipped the ball passed Ray Clemence to force a reply at Villa Park. Liverpool won the reply 2-1.
Nicky didn't play in either games, was part of the squad for the day at Wembley, Stuart Pearson being the named substitute.
